Anna and Matthew’s small and intimate wedding weekend in Charleston was one of my favorite weddings to date. While full and elaborate wedding weekends are what I do most and truly are so exciting, these moments where you get to strip away all of the noise and just focus on what truly matters is always such a beautiful reminder of love and what a wedding truly stands for.
Anna and Matthew met on Bumble in Charlotte after Anna moved back from Colorado in 2018. After dating for 4 years, Matthew asked Anna’s father for his permission to marry his daughter. Then, he proposed at Montage Palmetto Bluff on a beautiful weekend away! As they recently moved to Charleston, they knew they wanted their family and closest friends to come celebrate their wedding in their new home city.
Before their wedding even began, they put their future promise of “in sickness and in health” into practice. Anna spent some time during the week and the night before their wedding in the ER with severe abdominal pain. She was released very early on the morning of their wedding and got little to no sleep. With lots of medication to get her through the day in as little pain as possible, she put on a brave face and forged on. Truly, nothing could stop Anna from marrying the love of her life!
Post House Inn Wedding Day
Anna’s first look with her father was on the staircase at the Post House Inn. This inn was where the ceremony was and where they stayed for the weekend. Anna always used to jump to her dad off of the stairs and we knew we had to incorporate that into their first look together!
After their ceremony with just family in the Rose Room at the Post House Inn, we walked through the Old Village for portraits, sat down with their family for a celebrate brunch, and I said farewell. I joined them again the following evening for a small session downtown through the streets of Charleston and we joined their reception immediately after at Leon’s Oyster Shed! Every moment truly felt like a celebration of Anna and Matthew – and their love of this beautiful city.
Even though these two don’t love being the center of attention, they sure celebrated well with their friends and family! And even though Anna wasn’t feeling 100% herself, you could still feel the joy and warmth she radiated. With an oyster roast at Leon’s Oyster Shed with all of their closest loved ones, they danced under the stars while Fall Lift sang through the warm September night.
Anna and Matthew – you two were a genuine joy. Your love is refreshing and your wedding weekend brought a smile to my face the entire time! I adore you guys and your family. Wishing you so much happiness (and travel) in all of the years to come!
