There’s something about Duke Mansion that always feels magical, no matter the time of day. But Lizzie and Lucas’ engagement session was my first morning session here, and let me tell you, the light was nothing short of incredible! Soft, golden, and glowing through the gardens. It made me wonder why I don’t do more mornings at this stunning Charlotte venue!
A Morning Engagement Session at Duke Mansion
We wandered the grounds with a bottle of champagne (always a yes in my book!), laughed until our cheeks hurt, and even had a special guest join us, their sweet little puppy, Moose!! Between the champagne toasts, blooming gardens, and Lizzie’s fabulous dresses (I loved her vibrant orange one from Leo Lin, and the chic blue number from Bloomingdale’s was perfection), the session felt like pure joy from beginning to end.
Their Story
Lizzie and Lucas both grew up in Charlotte, attending rival high schools. However, fate didn’t bring them together until a July 4th trip to Charleston in 2021. From that weekend on, they were inseparable. After a season of long distance, Lucas proposed in Charleston on the rooftop of The Dewberry Hotel, surrounded by their families. The city holds such special meaning for them (and happens to be one of my favorites too!), so it was the perfect backdrop for their engagement celebration.
Now, these two are planning their January wedding at the Charlotte Country Club, a place with deep family ties. Lucas’ grandfather is a member, and Lizzie’s cousin, who happens to be a dear industry friend of mine, played a big role in connecting us. From our very first conversation, it was such an easy “yes” to working together!
Why Duke Mansion Was the Perfect Setting
As a Duke Mansion engagement photographer, I always find new corners of this venue that take my breath away. The classic white architecture, sprawling oak trees, and lush gardens make it an absolute dream location for photos. During Lizzie and Lucas’ session, the blooms were at their peak, creating the most romantic backdrop for their laughter-filled morning. The way these two joke and laugh together made every frame feel so natural and effortless.
I already know their wedding day with Casey Harris of Designed by LaFête is going to be an incredible celebration. If their Duke Mansion engagement session is any indication, we’re in for a day full of joy, laughter, and unforgettable moments at Charlotte Country Club this January. Lizzie and Lucas, thank you for such a fun morning! I truly can’t wait to celebrate you again so soon!
